The Paumier Scholars SAT Summer Camp Kickoff - Wednesday, June 22nd

Everyone is highly encouraged to join us next Wednesday afternoon, as we celebrate our inaugural Paumier Scholars! Christ Church will be hosting a kickoff reception to announce our SAT Summer Camp program on June 22nd at 5:00 p.m.

In conjunction with Howard County Public School System, Applerouth Test Preparation Agency, and the Cy Paumier family, Christ Church will be offering a free Summer Camp for forty students at Oakland Mills High School, made possible by a generous donation from Cy's family. The Paumier Scholars Program is the start of an important and innovative partnership to help provide educational opportunities to more students throughout our community.

Cyril Paumier, a beloved member of Christ Episcopal Church, lived in Columbia for over fifty years. He worked for the Rouse Company where he served for several years as Chief Land Planner, overseeing and coordinating land planning, site planning, and landscape design for the new city of Columbia, Maryland. In his heart, Cyril considered himself an original resident of Columbia. He was committed to the belief that the city could, and should, enhance the quality of life of its residents, with a particular focus on the well-being of children.

The purpose of this partnership is to provide forty enthusiastic, yet economically-challenged, 11th-grade Oakland Mills High School students of color the opportunity to experience a six-week intensive SAT preparation class. This intensive summer program is meant to provide the students with tools and skills that will help prepare them for successfully taking the SAT to increase their college acceptance.

We'll have more information in the coming week, but to hear all about it firsthand we invite you stop by New Brick at Christ Church this Wednesday at 5 p.m. We'll have a brief reception in the lower level's Great Hall, and then head to the Sanctuary to hear from representatives of Christ Episcopal Church, Oakland Mills High School, Howard County Public Schools, and Applerouth. We are excited about this new endeavor and would like to include you in this unique opportunity to support the students of Oakland Mills High.
