Everyone is Welcome to join in Celebrating Maryland Day

Everyone is welcome to join the WOCC as they head to a special Maryland Day event this Saturday, March 23rd.  We will be meeting at the Historic London Town and Gardens at 10:15 a.m. for a morning of tours and activities.

What is Maryland Day? Well, it commemorates the formal founding of the colony of Maryland, when the newly-arrived colonists erected a cross on St. Clement’s Island, offered prayers, and took “possession of this Countrey for our Saviour and for our soveraigne Lord the King of England.” According to one of the versions of Father Andrew White’s account of the voyage of the Ark and the Dove, this event took place on 25 March 1633/34 at the colonists’ first landfall in Maryland. You can read more and find historical links at https://www.marylandday.org/what-is-maryland-day.

The London Town Gardens website tells us to "Immerse yourself in the past and take in the spring splendor of our gardens this Maryland Day weekend at Historic London Town & Gardens. Join interactive tours to hear stories about the past residents and buildings of the colonial port town and learn about the many varieties of plants that grow in our 10-acre woodland gardens. Meet with living history interpreters dressed in colonial clothing, explore our exhibits full of artifacts, and enjoy the sights, scents, and sounds of London Town."

Historic London Town and Gardens are located at 839 Londontown Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037. Admission is free in celebration of Maryland Day, and you can learn more about this event at http://www.historiclondontown.org/marylandday. If you plan on joining us, email WOCC@christchurchcolumbia.org.

Please note that if it rains, the event will be canceled.
