Prayers

Lord, you are the Good Shepherd, and you have laid down your life for us, your sheep. With your staff you lead us, and with your rod you protect us. We thank you for your guidance and the love you share with us every day. We ask that you hear our prayers, as we listen for your voice and strive to follow you.

Lord, we give thanks for all the gifts you give us. We thank you for the talents you have blessed us with, and for simple gifts that we often overlook, such as the house we live in or the food we enjoy. We thank you for the beauty of nature, music, art, and the rich variety of cultures in the world. We thank you for our ability to think for ourselves and make our own decisions, the way you made the decision to give your life for us.

Lord, help us to hear your voice.

As we thank you for our many gifts, we also pray for those who struggle. We pray for those who do not have safe shelter, for those who are hungry, and for those who cannot find work. May your staff guide them to the resources they need, and guide us to help in whatever way we can.

Lord, help us to hear your voice.

In the Anglican cycle of prayer we pray for the Anglican Church of Kenya, and in the Diocese of Maryland we pray for St. Bartholomew’s, Ten Hill; St. James’, Lafayette Square; St. Katherine of Alexandria’s, Baltimore; and for our Diocesan Convention next weekend. We thank you for Richard and Lura, our clergy, and for our church family. We ask your blessings for all people who gather to worship you, that we may continue to follow your ways together rather than let differences pull us apart.

Lord, help us to hear your voice.

We pray for those who have lost family members and friends to acts of violence. We pray also for kids who are bullied or teased. Help them to know you are with them at all times, and help us to have the courage to stand up for them.

Lord, help us to hear your voice.

We pray for those who are sick in mind, body, and spirit, and for those who have been in accidents. May your healing power comfort them in their time of need.

Lord, help us to hear your voice.

We pray for those who have died and for their family members and friends who miss them. We ask you to bring them safely to your home in Heaven, that they may live happily with you and the angels. We pray also for those who grieve, that they may get through their pain, but never forget those they have lost.

Lord, help us to hear your voice.
