Prayers: July 18, 2010

We lift up our hearts in prayer.

As we see in Christ the perfect living embodiment of the greatness and goodness of God the Father, we seek to learn how we can share the light and love of Christ with others in spite of our own imperfections.  For this we ask your help, saying: Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray that we may learn to replace our own self-centered worries and minor distractions with faith, humility and service.  We ask for your guidance, saying: Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray for mercy for those who live in areas stricken by violence, poverty or natural or manmade disasters.  We ask for humility and wisdom for those in power that they may make choices to bring peace and comfort to those who suffer.  Let us pray, saying: Lord, hear our prayer.

In the Anglican cycle of prayer, we give thanks for the Episcopal Church in the Philippines.  In the Diocese of Maryland, we pray for St. Paul’s, Prince Frederick and St. Katherine of Alexandria, Baltimore. We give thanks for our many blessings, for the opportunity to worship together at Christ Church and to hear your Word.  We give thanks for all of our ministries, for our Rector, for all who participate in the service today, including those who are new or visiting.  Let us pray saying: Lord, hear our prayer.

We raise up in prayer those who serve in the many aspects of Christian formation in our parish and especially all who will help and participate in Vacation Bible School this coming week.  We pray saying: Lord, hear our prayer.

We ask for compassion and mercy for those who are ill and for those caring for them.  For those who are lonely or anxious, may they find comfort and peace.  For this, we pray saying: Lord, hear our prayer.

We remember those who have died and entered eternal life.  We pray saying:  Lord, hear our prayer.

We give thanks for the joy of those in our congregation who celebrate anniversaries of their wedding, birth, baptism or other occasions. Our hearts are thankful for all those who worked and gave to our annual barbeque.  Let us pray saying: Lord, hear our prayer.

We give this coming week into your hands, knowing that you will be with us in all that we do.  Amen.

Prayers: July 11, 2010

Heavenly Father, as we go through our lives, help us to know and understand what you would have us do to share Your love in the world.  Christ used the parable of the Good Samaritan to teach us to help others in need, putting aside worldly barriers to accept everyone as our neighbor. We ask that you give us the courage to help others in their time of need, so that we might be a means to answer another’s prayer, as we pray to you with the following petitions; “Lord, Hear Our Prayer.”

Help us to see the face of Christ in all our neighbors, to welcome our visitors and to treat everyone with love as Christ taught.  We pray to the Lord: Lord, Hear Our Prayer.

Guide us as we make decisions that affect those around us. We pray especially for political leaders throughout the world. We offer our prayers and support to the people of the Gulf Coast. In our Christ Church family we pray for members of the new Sunday School Committee as they make decisions concerning sharing the teachings of Christ with our youngest members.  We pray to the Lord: Lord, Hear Our Prayer.

Support us as a church family as we gather to hear the Word of the Lord and celebrate in community. We pray especially in our Diocese for Resurrection, Joppa and Redemption, Locust Point.  In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we give thanks for the Anglican Church of Papua, New Guinea. We welcome Katrina back to our community and pray for her parish, Holy Apostles.  Help us to speak a language of love and acceptance rather than division within the greater community of Christians.  We pray to the Lord: Lord, Hear Our Prayer.

Be with us when we find ourselves in difficult situations that we can not handle alone, or are asked to help others in their time of need. We pray for those who cannot find shelter or are in need of food, medicine, or other physical necessities. We pray for those who are sick in mind, body, or spirit, and in need of your comfort. May all who are suffering find comfort in Your love and the love of friend and neighbor.  We pray to the Lord: Lord, Hear Our Prayer.

Grieve with us as we pray for all the departed. Comfort those who mourn today. We pray to the Lord: Lord, Hear Our Prayer.

Rejoice with us as we recognize those who have celebrations of joy and happiness, including birthdays, wedding and baptismal anniversaries. Be with us as we gather as a community next weekend for the annual Texas BBQ dinner. May our rejoicing be an opportunity to share our gifts with others.  We pray to the Lord: Lord, Hear Our Prayer.

Heavenly Father, you gave us the gift of Your Son, whose teachings we use to lead us through our lives. You know that the way forward is often difficult, yet you call on us to move ahead.  Be with us when darkness threatens to overcome us, and help us to use our gifts to share Your love with everyone we may encounter. Amen.

Prayers: July 4, 2010

Bearing another’s burden is an important way to fulfill the law of Christ.  On the anniversary of the birth of our nation, may we show our appreciation to those who serve our country, that our freedom will be preserved and that we may realize our God given rights.  Given the opportunity let us work for the good of all, saying In Christ’s name we pray.

As Jesus instructed His disciples, may we ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His fields. We are grateful for the worldwide Church bringing the Kingdom of God close to many.  In our own diocese, we give thanks for St. John’s, Kingsville and in the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray this morning for the Church of Pakistan.  We are blessed to have dedicated leaders within our congregation. We welcome those who are new to us or visiting Christ Church.  We praise God for uniting us today in worship, saying: In Christ’s name we pray.

For all who are ill in body, mind or spirit, may the Lord restore health and wholeness.  May all of us receive God’s joy and comfort.  May our fears be vanquished and hope reside in our souls, saying: In Christ’s name we pray.

As God holds our souls in life and will not allow our feet to slip, may we realize that the hand of the Lord is with his servants in life and in death.  We lift up the souls of the departed.  We also ask the Lord to be close to those who grieve.  May His comfort and deep love heal our Spirits, saying: In  Christ’s name we pray.

Let us be joyful sharing in the celebrations of birthdays, baptismal and wedding anniversaries among our church family.  Today we give thanks for these special times in the lives of.  May we all marvel at the gift of life and God’s amazing grace, saying: In  Christ’s name we pray.

Let us praise God and see the wonderful works He is doing towards all people.  We ask  that the Lord will use us for His purposes and that our words and actions may reflect His will, saying: In  Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

Prayers: June 27, 2010

Christ frees us to live in relationship with Him, guided by the Holy Spirit and dedicated to love one another.  May we all demonstrate the fruits of the Spirit and be recognized as a joyous, patient, kind, gentle, faithful, generous, self-disciplined and peace-loving people.  Let us always seek to be fit for service in God’s Kingdom saying Lord, show us the path of Life.

May we recognize God’s call in our lives, as Elisha changed his direction from tilling the soil to being a prophet, a messenger of God’s Word.  Let us remember the invitation of Jesus on the road to Jerusalem: Follow me! saying: Lord, show us the path of Life.

We extend our prayers to our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world, who are bearers of the Light and agents of growth and renewal in the Church.  In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we raise up the Church of North India.  In the Diocese of Maryland, we embrace St. Matthew’s, Oakland and Mt. Calvary, Baltimore.  In our own Parish, we pray for our outstanding staff and our congregation that we may serve God and our community with a deep faith and real joy, saying: Lord, show us the path of Life.

Let us also pray for political leaders in our country, that God may grant them wisdom to solve the environmental and economic problems that face our Nation.  May we seek peace and justice in conflicts throughout the world.  May anger and violence within our communities end.  We pray that fear will be replaced by love, saying: Lord, show us the path of Life.

As Christ extended his care and concern to all people, let us be involved in thought, word and deed, extending our love and prayers to those who are suffering physically or emotionally.  May the healing touch of Our Lord sustain each of us in times of greatest need, saying: Lord, show us the path of Life.

Knowing that in God’s presence there is fullness of joy, we remember those who have died and entered Eternal Life.  May we always remain a community of love, in this life and in the world to come, saying: Lord, show us the path of Life.

Our hearts are glad and our spirits rejoice as we celebrate birthdays, baptismal and wedding anniversaries in our Parish family.  As we share these important occasions in our lives, may we deepen our relationships with each other and open the windows of our souls, saying: Lord, show us the path of Life.

Our Lord refused to condemn the Samaritans and others who rejected His Spiritual leadership and His mission.  He still had plans to change their hearts.  For those whom He encountered, and a desire for discipleship was voiced, he expected singleness of purpose and a Christ- centered life.  May we be attuned to God’s vision for our lives and be available for opportunities in His everlasting Kingdom.  Amen.

Lord, in our opening collect today we prayed “grant that by your inspiration we may think those things that are right and by your merciful guiding may do them”.  Be with us this week as we try to think and be all that you desire for us.  In your Name, we pray.  Amen.

Heavenly Father, you sent us your Son, Jesus Christ, to take away our sins, and today we celebrate Your Gift of the Holy Spirit to us. The Holy Spirit guided the apostles as they preached the life of Jesus and built the Church, just as He guides us today in our everyday lives. You have given us so much Father, yet we still sometimes get lost in our journeys. As we gather together to celebrate the joy of this day, we also ask the Holy Spirit to help us in our times of need as we pray together, responding, “Come Holy Spirit.”

Help us to recognize and use our individual gifts bestowed upon us by the Holy Spirit to the glory of the Lord and for the good of all people.

We pray: Come Holy Spirit

We pray: Come Holy Spirit

Guide us as a church family as we gather to hear the Word of the Lord and celebrate in community, and bless those who are new or visiting with us today. We pray especially within our Diocese for St. Peter’s, Lonaconing and for St. James’, Parkton. Help us to speak a language of love and acceptance rather than division within the greater community of Christians.

We pray: Come Holy Spirit

Guide us when we find ourselves in situations that we can not handle alone, or are asked to help others in their time of need. We pray for those who cannot find shelter or are in need of food, medicine, or other physical necessities. We pray for those who are sick in mind, body, or spirit, and in need of your comfort. May all who are suffering find comfort in Your love and the love of friend and neighbor.

We pray: Come Holy Spirit

We pray for all the departed. Comfort those who mourn today.

We pray: Come Holy Spirit

Guide us as we promise to guide the newly baptized. We pray for them on their blessed day of Baptism, and celebrate their anointing by the Holy Spirit. We pray: Come Holy Spirit

Heavenly Father, you gave us the gift of Your Son so that we may always walk in the light, and you gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide us along the lighted path. Be with us when darkness threatens to overcome us, and help us to use our gifts to shine your light for others. Amen.

Prayers: May 16, 2010

Risen Lord, You are the one life-giving light in this world. In your final hours upon the earth before facing the cross, you prayed to your Father, a prayer for your disciples and for all of us throughout time who would believe in You through their words that we would all be one just as you and the Father are one.

May the transcendent love, with which our Savior Christ has loved and loves each one of us throughout all time, dwell within us, and may we carry that love into the world in His name. We pray:

Ascended Savior, call us to humbly carry the hope, the promise and the joy of your love into a hurting world.

As we are all one in Christ, we give thanks for our brothers and sisters gathered here this morning to worship together. We extend a warm welcome for all who are new or are visiting today and we thank God for the blessing of fellowship. We give prayerful thanks for Katherine, our Presiding Bishop, for Eugene and John, our Bishops and for Richard, our Rector. In our Diocese we pray especially this day for St. Paul’s, Baltimore and for St. Luke’s, Eastport.  We pray:

Ascended Savior, call us to humbly carry the hope, the promise and the joy of your love into a hurting world.

In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we celebrate Anglican Communion Sunday as One Body in Christ, praying together:

A hymn of glory let us sing

New songs throughout the world shall ring
Christ, by a road before untrod
Ascendeth to the throne of God. Alleluia.

As one in Christ and with Christ, we celebrate and give thanks with our church family for occasions of joy; celebrating the anniversaries of weddings, births, baptisms or other occasions. We pray:

Ascended Savior, call us to humbly carry the hope, the promise and the joy of your love into a hurting world.

Lord, Jesus, you called your disciples to feed your sheep; to care for your lambs. Fill our hearts with compassion and love for those who are ill; for those who are suffering in mind, body or in spirit; for all who hunger or dwell in oppression.  May we most humbly be your eyes to see, your hands to reach out and your heart to comfort one another in this world. We pray:

Ascended Savior, call us to humbly carry the hope, the promise and the joy of your love into a hurting world.

For those who have died, grant them everlasting peace in your eternal kingdom.  Cradle in your healing hands those who mourn this day that they may be comforted in Your love. We pray:

Ascended Savior, call us to humbly carry the hope, the promise and the joy of your love into a hurting world.

Blessed Lord, you call your Church to discipleship. We give thanks for the humble, constant and unwavering spirit to serve you that dwelled within Paul and Silas and all of your faithful Apostles in the face of suffering, hardship and imprisonment. Their discipleship carried the unwavering torch of your love through their lives and through generations to come and to us and our own lives today. May we sing hymns of joy celebrating your Resurrection and Ascension. We give thanks for your grace in our lives, and are forever grateful to You.

Amen.
