Vestry: July 2010

The Vestry discussed our recent Saturday morning dialogue concerning Christ Church Link.  We thank our community guests, the Link volunteers (both parishioners and non-parishioners), former and present staff and members of the Outreach Commission for spending good time with us.  As we dedicated most of our Vestry meeting time to the issues of the water pipe leak, we set aside the majority of time in the July meeting for further discussion on how we go about shaping the bright future of Christ Church Link.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

As the Vestry discussed the many issues around the pipe leak in the lower level of New Brick, it became apparent that we will need your help in several ways:

  • Recommendations of companies that could give an estimate on replacing the carpet.
  • Recommendations of commercial contractors who could give estimates on repairing the sheetrock, molding and necessary painting.
  • Assist the Vestry in determining our best course of action in regard to the testing of the present system of sprinkler pipes and recommending companies that could monitor the system for us.

We need all of the above ASAP so that it can be submitted to the Insurance Company for processing, and so that we can get the lower level of New Brick in top shape as soon as we can.  Please call the office and speak to Richard.  Thank you!

The Vestry appointed the following parishioners to the Nominating Committee for the election to the Vestry in October: P. Sanchez (Chair), T. Beaty, D. Campagna, S. Coghlan and R. Dean.

From the Rector: July 2010

Holy WeekDuring the month of July we will continue our historical celebration with two events on the calendar.  The first is a visit from the Rev. Katrina Grusell on July 11th.  Katrina is presently Rector of Holy Apostles, Arbutus.  Katrina attended Christ Church and was our Parish Coordinator for several years prior to entering seminary.  Be sure to be with us at either service as we welcome Katrina back to Christ Church.  She will preach at both services.

The second of our Historical Liturgical Celebrations will take place on Sunday, July 25th in Old Brick.  The Sunday service schedule will be changed to 8:00am, 9:30am and 11:00am.  There will be music at the 9:30 & 11:00 am services. Each service will commemorate the giving of the silver flagon, chalice and paten we still use today.  They were first put in use in 1748 by our first Rector, the Rev. James MacGill.  All three services will be communion from the prayer book that was used at that time – the 1662 prayer book of the Church of England.

Come and be with us as we celebrate our past and look toward our future.

Sharing the Love of the Risen Christ,

Richard+
